It can be intimidating to cycle your adult trike on off-road cycle routes. To ensure you’re able to make the most of your three-wheel bike we have put together some tips on how to gain confidence when adventuring off-road.

What is off-road cycling?

Many cyclists enjoy off-road tricycle cycling as it involves exploring the outdoors while enjoying the thrill of navigating more challenging terrain. Off-road cycling involves cycling on uneven or rough terrain, for example, dirt trails, gravel, grass and muddy paths.

What adult trike is best for off-road cycling?

There are three-wheel bikes designed to help you tackle more challenging terrain with confidence. Our all-terrain electric trikes have various features which make them perfect for cyclists looking for more adventure:

How to start off-road cycling on an off-road trike:

Gaining confidence on off-road cycle routes is a gradual process that comes with lots of practice.

  • Choose the right adult trike: It’s important to use an adult trike which can withstand rough terrain. Our off-road trikes’ front suspension, hydraulic disc brakes, puncture-resistant tyres and rear differential ensure you can safely and comfortably tackle challenging terrain.
  • Master basic riding skills: Before setting off on uneven surfaces, you’ll have to know how to ride an adult tricycle on smooth, paved surfaces first. For our top tips on riding an adult trike, find out more here.
  • Be prepared with safety equipment: In case of any falls or accidents, we recommend you take precautions and wear extra safety equipment. You should always wear a helmet when cycling, but you may choose to wear knee or elbow pads when off-road cycling.
  • Learn how to handle hills: A large part of off-road cycling is knowing how to cycle your electric trike uphill and downhill. To do so, you’ll need to find the right gear and know how to make the most of pedal assist.
  • Start with easy trails: Don’t dive in at the deep end, start with easier off-road cycle routes first. This will give you the chance to learn how to navigate and manoeuvre your trike on loose ground and control your trike when cycling uphill or downhill.

Now you know how to start off-road cycling, why not take your all-terrain trike out for a spin? Check out some of the UK’s best forests for off-road cycling.
